Concept for Literacy & Social Media

What is your concept of media literacy for adults and for children? How do they differ?

My concept of media literacy for adults is more graphic and for mature audiences and for children it’s somewhat tamed. There are a lot of magic and spooky shows that they have for children now a days that seem like it’s not actually meant for them. Just like in the world of video games, there are a lot of violent games that have ratings that children still have access to and they still purchase them. I guess you can cay it’s a thin line between adult media literacy and children media literacy. You just can find too many wholesome shows that are in the media today that the entire family can watch together.

How is social media influencing our own and global politics? What are the dangers? What changes can we expect? Can we predict where this will take us? Please use examples.

Social media is influencing our society and global politics a great deal.  The U.S. government monitors Facebook especially when the see malicious statements made about the president and other government officials. I think that people thrive off of the opinions of users of social media and networks and let it influence their ideas in a way.  The government has control in everything including the media and what should be presented on television. So, wouldn’t you think that some aspect of influence bounces from social media to the government as well? I think so. Some of the changes that we can expect are that soon, more curse words will be used in social media instead of the norm that is being used today.  More incentives into what direction that are government is taking us will be exposed to an extent.  We really can’t predict solely where social media will take us exactly but it will be exciting to see how those changes will elevate us in the 21st century.
